South Carolina Legal News: Voter ID & Immigration

Over the recent December holiday break, recent South Carolina laws involving voter identification and immigration reform made the national news.   On December 22nd, federal Judge Richard M. Gergel blocked the enforcement of 3 key provisions of the South Carolina immigration reform law, granting the Department of Justice’s requested injunction.  On Friday, December 23rd, the Department of Justice, via its authority from the Voting Rights Act, rejected South Carolina’s voter I.D. law.   Both decisions are likely to be appealed.
