Supreme Court issues order in Texas redistricting case

The United States Supreme Court issued a Per Curium order today vacating the redistricting map adopted by a three judge panel in a Voting rights Act challenge to the Texas redistricting plan. The Court ordered the panel to use the district lines adopted by the Texas legislature as the starting point for any interim plan. The new plan must follow the Texas policy decisions unless there is reasonable probability the plan or portions thereof will fail to obtain section 5 Preclearance. Opinion avaiable here.
