March 16, 2012 South Carolina Court of Appeals published opinion

Anthony H. v Mathew G.

Anthony H. filed suit to terminate Mathew G.’s parental rights in order to adopt a stepchild. Mathew objected arguing that Georgia had issued a child custody order and had not lost jurisdiction over the child. The family court disagreed and issued an order terminating Mathew G.’s rights and approving the adoption. The panel reversed holding Georgia had initial jurisdiction over custody issues and did not lose jurisdiction when the mother and child moved to South Carolina
