C-Track: South Carolina’s New Case Management System

Capture

Check out the new South Carolina Appellate Court Case Management System here.  Known as C-Track Public Access, the system appears as a hyperlink under Quick Links on the South Carolina Judicial Department’s website.  According to information posted on the website, the purpose of the site  is  to provide “…a public access site for the South Carolina Appellate Court Case Management System. This site provides access to information regarding cases filed with the Supreme Court of South Carolina and the South Carolina Court of Appeals.

The site can be searched by court or party name.  It provides access to case events and other basic case information for decisions appealed from the:

* Court of Common Pleas;

* Court of General Sessions;

* Administrative Law Court;

* Probate Court;

* Public Services Commission;

* State Ethics Commission; and

*  Worker’s  Compensation Commission

and appealed to either the South Carolina Supreme Court or the South Carolina Court of Appeals.

Coverage begins May 1, 2012, but plans exist to add earlier coverage.  Basic case information that can be located includes the:

* court to which the appeal is made;

* court from which the decision is appealed;

* date the appeal is filed;

* current status of the case;

* oral argument; and

* disposition.

While not a docket sheet per se, the entries do function very much like a docket sheet in that they reflect the proceedings of the case.  Documents, if not confidential or under seal, are available and can be accessed.  An example of the proceedings and documents available for a case that I checked included the following:

* correspondence;

* briefs;

* transcripts; and

* notice of appeal.

Check it out here.
